The Animals: Toulouse

Toulouse in CCC II

We want to put a face to the animals who you’ll be helping by participating in Cupcake Day! So each week between now and September 16th we’ll be featuring a dog and cat who is getting a second chance at life thanks to the work of The Anti-Cruelty Society.

Our first featured pet is a beautiful black and white kitty named Toulouse. Having arrived at The Anti-Cruelty Society in early March, he was brought in when a family member developed a cat allergy and could no longer keep him in their home.

Despite the stress of entering the shelter environment, Toulouse instantly captured the hearts of both volunteers and staff alike. This long-haired hunk was loving and affectionate, despite his new circumstances, and that made us love him even more!

After being with us for a few weeks, Toulouse became sick with a kitty cold called that’s generally referred to as Upper Respiratory Infection.  To help treat his infection, Toulouse was transferred to our on-site rehabilitation center where our clinic team tended to his medical needs.

After two months of in-house care, Toulouse recovered from his most serious symptoms and reemerged to the adoption room as a “chronic” cat. Because of the nature of Toulouse’s illness, he would never fully recover from the virus, hence his new label. Toulouse would always display some mild symptoms of his original infection.

Despite his perpetually stuffy sinuses, and the occasional clear-his-throat-hiss, Toulouse was ready to find his new home! So our staff team moved him into one of our cage-less cat colony rooms where he could mingle with other cats while meeting prospective adopters. Finding his favorite perching spot near the front window, Toulouse became a main-stay in Charlotte’s Cat Corner, with visitors and volunteers coming by daily to see him. He even had his own fan club!

We’re happy to report that, after more than four months at The Anti-Cruelty Society, Toulouse was adopted this past Sunday! His journey is just one of hundreds of cats who come through our doors, and proves that there truly is a person out there for every pet in need!

Wishing you all the best in your new home Toulouse!
